A couple of weeks ago, Mike shared with us his rather ingenious way of adding sound effects to your model railway layout using a couple of MP3 speakers with building in SD card slots. Well he’s been in touch again and has very kindly agreed to let us give away the sound effect files he uses on his layout to readers of this blog and our newsletter.

You can check out each of the sounds by clicking on the play buttons below, or you can download all of the sounds in MP3 format in a single .zip file here.

Manythanks for puttint this on the internet, itb works very good can you tell how do i make a space between each recording or is it only one thing each MP3 PLAYER. ……many thanks Robin

      Hi Robin,
According to Mike the MP3 players should play in continuous loop through each sound. So if you wanted to put space in between them, you could effectively record quietness, or just tweeting birds or something like that to play quietly in between each main sound effect. You could edit the length of the quiet bits then using something like the free Audacity MP3 audio editing software.

Hope that helps. I’ll be compiling a list of other resources to download sound files from shortly 🙂
      Thanks

      Justin
