Adding grass and foliage to a model railway layout can really bring it to life, just like adding tree (click here for tips on how to make model trees). There are literally hundreds of types of scatter & foliage on the market, from static grasses to flocks and basic scatters. There are also a million and one different techniques for getting good results with them, but a lot can be done on a very tight budget too. This brilliant tutorial video walks us through a wide range of different techniques for creating great looking scenery using a couple of really low cost materials… Dyed sawdust & twine! There’s some really cool techniques for creating realistic grassed areas, grassy tufts and even flowers!
With a little practice these techniques could be used to great effect on any layout and save you a good few pounds or dollars in the process. Thanks to PhilipStephens007 Youtube channel for the video.
