Founded in June 2009, Model Trains Online delivers useful and innovative information to Railway & Railroad modellers all around the world. We publish a weekly email newsletter which you can subscribe to for FREE, via the panel over on the right, and publish new articles on the blog most days.
Our aim is to inform our readers about the latest trends, products and techniques in building a realistic model railway on a tight budget. We aim to provide high quality how to articles, news and reviews covering all aspects of building a model railway layout. We hope that makes us different from the rest. Model Trains Online is, and always has been, independent.
Model Trains Online is the run by me, Justin Noble. I’m a 40 year old life-long model railway enthusiast and I live in Leicestershire with my Fiancé, Tina and our 9 year old Daughter. I’ve been into model railways since I was a young kid, thanks to my wonderful grandfather, John Henry Hill (know as Jack to his friends), who worked for British Rail after WWII until the mid 1970’s when he retired.
I’ve built various layouts over the years, covering all eras and genres, and I’ve drifted off from time to time into other hobbies too, such as music and radio controlled cars. But I’ve always come back to railway modelling. It must be in my blood! I’ve built up, sold and rebuilt my collection of Hornby, Bachmann & Peco OO scale stuff many times over the years, and my current interest in minimalism kinda of sits awkwardly alongside railway modelling! Is it possible to have a minimalist layout? Zen and the Art of Railway Modelling!
Over the years I’ve also dabbled in dealing in model and hobby products, building up a couple of very successful websites selling Model Railway & Slot Car products online, but I’ve now streamlined my operations and prefer to write about the hobby. Which is why I created this site!
